meLê yamomo a vécu à Lucena City, Los Baños, Manille, Séoul, Bangkok, Warwick et Munich, et réside actuellement entre Amsterdam et Berlin. Il est maître de conférences en nouvelles dramaturgies, cultures médiatiques, recherche artistique et décolonialité à l’Université d’Amsterdam, membre de l’Amsterdam Young Academy et auteur de Sounding Modernities (Palgrave Macmillan, 2018).

Il est responsable de projet et chercheur principal de Re:Sound (NWO-NWA, 2025-2029), de Decolonizing Southeast Asian Archives, ou DeCoSEAS (UE, 2021-2025), ainsi que de Sonic Entanglements (Netherlands Research Council, 2017-2022).

meLê est le quatrième lauréat de l’Open Ear Composer Award et l’un des lauréats 2020 du KNAW Early Career Award, décerné par l’Académie royale néerlandaise des arts et des sciences.

Il est également artiste résident au Theater Ballhaus Naunynstrasse, où ses créations Echoing Europe, sonus et Forces of Overtones sont au répertoire. meLê assure la direction artistique du Decolonial Frequencies Festival et anime et produit le podcast Sonic Entanglements.

Dans son travail d’artiste-chercheur, meLê s’intéresse aux migrations sonores, aux esthétiques queer et aux acoustémologies post/décoloniales.

EASt | Professeur invité 2021-2022

Jeremy Allouche est docteur de l’IUHEI/Université de Genève. Il est actuellement professeur à l’Institute of Development Studies de l’université du Sussex et codirecteur du Humanitarian Learning Centre. Il fait partie du comité directeur du Sussex African Center et est membre du STEPS Centre, financé par l’ESRC, et du Sussex Center for Conflict and Security Research. Il a également été chercheur invité à l’Université d’Oxford et au MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology). Ses domaines d’intérêt sont l’intersection entre le changement environnemental global, la sécurité et le développement. Il a travaillé avec des agences de développement (DfID, SDC), des organisations multilatérales et des ONG internationales et a fait de nombreuses apparitions dans les médias britanniques (Radio 4, BBC, The Guardian).

EASt | Professeure invitée 2017-2018

Isabelle Attané est directrice de recherches, démographe et sinologue à l’Institut national d’études démographiques, spécialiste de la démographie de la Chine. Elle est habilitée à diriger des recherches et chercheure associée au Centre d’études sur la Chine moderne et contemporaine (EHESS Paris). Ses travaux portent sur les évolutions sociales en lien avec les changements démographiques en Chine avec une approche démographique et sociologique. Elle s’intéresse en particulier aux relations de genre et aux discriminations envers les filles et les femmes dans la société chinoise en transition, de même qu’à la question du déséquilibre numérique entre les sexes (surmasculinité démographique) et à ses conséquences sur les individus et la société.

Bettina Beer received her PhD in anthropology from the University of Hamburg, in 1995, with a dissertation on German-Philippine marriages. Interethnic marriages and the migration of women. She habilitated in 2001 with a project on Body concepts, interethnic relations and theories of racism. She has conducted long-term fieldwork in the Philippines and Papua New Guinea, and research on cultural diversity in German-speaking Europe. She is committed to the importance of the connection between research and teaching in all aspects of anthropology.

She received the Siemers-Preis of Hamburg University, and later a Heisenberg fellowship from the German Research Foundation. In 2003, she was elected a member of the Young Academy (of the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Science), and in 2006 became full professor of social and cultural anthropology at the University of Heidelberg. Since 2008 she has been professor for social and cultural anthropology at the University of Lucerne; in 2011, was elected to the Leibniz Chair at the Leibniz Center for Tropical Marine Ecology, Bremen. She is co-editor of the journal Sociologus.

Her current research project is focused on ruptures in intimate relations and conceptual questions in the anthropology of kinship; it is informed by empirical research on separation and the annulment of marriages in the Philippines.

Jaqueline Berndt holds a first degree in Japanese Studies (1987) and a PhD in Aesthetics/Art Theory from Humboldt University Berlin (1991); she is now Professor in Japanese Culture at Stockholm University. From 1991 to 2016 she worked at Japanese universities, teaching mainly visual culture and media studies in Japanese as well as English; eventually she served as Professor of Comics Theory at the Graduate School of Manga, Kyoto Seika University. Informed by visual culture, popular media, and exhibition/museum studies, her teaching and research focuses on manga as graphic narratives, anime, and modern Japanese art. Current interests are area studies as media studies, media specificity within media ecologies, and aesthetic materialities of contemporary manga and anime.
